name change process in India (Central Gazette) for Overseas Citizen of India
3 years ago
Dear Sir,
I am Abilash K, a holder of an Indian overseas citizen from Goa.
I changed my name while becomes a British citizen.
In India, I haven't changed my name, so I'd like to use my new name. So could you tell us how we should proceed with that name change in India?
It is true that the Central Gazette can only be officially notified for "INDIAN CITIZENS". A person who obtained foreign citizenship by renouncing Indian citizenship cannot change his or her name in India even if he or she is an OCI holder?
What about property papers under the old name? How can we sell it when we change our name abroad?
I've heard that any Indian law that says the OCI doesn't have to change their name in India and not to publish in the central Gazette. Thank you for your time and looking forward to your response
Abilash K
you need to get it published in the newspaper. the process requires filling up of some performa and paper work which needs to be signed. affidavit and other paper works will be attested by the judicial magistrate/ notary. you have to contact the official to do this.
