Lawyer took money for work but did not do it

We had approached a lawyer for TM work and he took full payment in advance (online payment). Thereafter he did nothing. Later he said in SMS and email that if work was not done by a particular date he would refund the money paid. It has been many months we have not received the money.
What is our remedy? Police says they cannot intervene in this matter as it involves a lawyer.
A.Hi,
You can file a suit for money recovery against him. If there was a contract with the refund clause, you can file a claim for damages due to breach of contract.
