Action against alcoholic and abusive neighbor Action against alcoholic and abusive neighbor

Younger son of our neighbors about 26 years old is an alcohol addict. He has a habit of talking in extremely high voice whenever drunk. When drunk, he shouts, sings songs and gets into fights with his family and abuses the whole day which is very loud and audible to everyone in the neighborhood. And he is drunk almost everyday so this is a big problem for the neighborhood and affects our mental health. We have a place for two tenants on first floor of our house. They also face the same problems as others and we find it tough to get tenants to live long periods at our place. So it affects us financially too. Also, this guy was admitted to a rehabilitation facility by his family which they could barely afford. But he did not complete the rehabilitation program and is back to his old self. What are the options that I can opt for? Can he be admitted to a government institution of any sorts forcefully? Is there any provision for jailing such people?

A.Hi,
You can seek the legal provision of nuisance in this circumstance. You can also make a police complaint stating the fact that there is apprehension of criminal conduct or abuse. There are many organisations that work for the youth making them free from alcohol. Research on these and you can help your neighbor by telling them about these organisations.

A.Dear Sir,
Only petty cases can be filed under the relevant police Act. You may lodge complaint with some NGO who are authorized to take away such drunken persons and reform them. Create evidence that your neighbor is always in drunken mood and nuisance.
