Can my Government employer force me to work for 24 hours in a day(8 hours as regular duty and rest on call during night) ?. For how many hours I should work? What labour law say about forcing an Govt employee to work beyond the prescribed time period.

A.Hi,
Please refer to the employment offer and the agreement you have signed. If the nature of the work is in such a way, you have to do it but that doesn't mean you have to work 24 hours continuously but you have to be ready to work at anytime if the situation arises.

A.Hi,
If the nature of the work is in such a way that requires the employee to work certain hours for the discharge of his work or duty, he is obliged to do so. It varies from job to job and the agreement made between the employer and the employee.

A.Dear concerned,
Eight hours duty is to be performed, not more than 48 hours a week as per labour law, But , if urgent and emergency they may be required more or night shifts. Where night duty has done by any employee then next day holiday is must. For every extra duty allowance and leave must be on record. But all are performed with co- ordination with other employees and head nurses, or immediate boss.
