I'm a 23 yo woman and unemployed due to insufficient education. My father is threatening to stop paying for my and my mother's (also unemployed, married to my father at 17) food and housing and other expenses. What can i do?

A.Your mother can claim maintenance for herself from your father under section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code,1973 by filing a petition in the Family Court of your concerned jurisdictional area or a District Court of your concerned jurisdictional area.
You being a major daughter will mostly not be eligible or entitled to claim maintenance from your father although you can try to file a case being unmarried daughter but chances are less that order may be passed in your favour of you are physically and mentally capable of earning.

You became major unless you are bedridden or otherwise not able to earn by yourself. You are not entitled for claim any money from your father.

A.Dear Client
You and your mother have all the rights to file a case for maintenance against your father in a court of law and seek proper maintenance from him legally through the court. Get in touch with a good lawyer and file a case for the same.

A.Dear Client,
You can File a civil maintenance petition against your father or a maintenance petition under section 125 of CrPC under which one can maintenance for wife, children, and parents.
