Online gaming competitions with entry fees collected
2 years ago
I am planning to hold an online competition based on 100% skill (say typing competition for reference) where participants will pay an entry fee and the top 3 would be given the prize. I want to know the following:
1. Is it legal to do so? If yes, is there any limit to the number of participants/prize amount?
2. How much of the collected fees can I keep ?
A.Dear Client,
Indian laws still don't differentiate between skill-based and chance-based games. Moreover, states such as Assam, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha have imposed a blanket prohibition on online games including skill gaming. Generally any game that involves money is perceived as gambling, which is banned in India. It would be best if you reach out to a lawyer and explain him the functioning of the game to be sure.
Thank you

A.Dear Sir,
It is legal and there is no outer limit and better you collect minimum price thereafter if there are no objections you may slowly increase the entry fee. No Government allows anybody to enrich by overnight.

A.Dear Client
Online gaming is still not legalized in India and it has lots of issues to tackle to. Call it by whatever name or skill based but most of the games are game of chance and luck hence online games are not allowed in most of the states in India and are banned. The moment a game involves money to be taken and prize to be own it becomes equivalent to gambling.
You are suggested to discuss your game and the steps involved completely with a lawyer to ensure that you are not breaking any rules.
