Shipment clearance in India
Hello Sir/Madam,
I have lived in Cyprus from 2017 to 2022 and came back to India in August 2022. I have sent my cargo through shipping company based in Israel. They are going to send my cargo as I am moving from Cyprus to India as I lived there for almost 5 years. Unfortunately I had to travel to Netherlands due to my new job and currently I am not available in India. The shipping company said they need my passport for custom clearance at Mumbai and without my passport it is not possible for them to clear it. So my cargo is stuck in Cyprus and I am paying huge rent to storage services in Cyprus. I have asked the shipping company that I can send my passport via courier to Mumbai and they can clear the shipment but they are not sure about it. Please advice me what should I do here. What are the ways to clear the shipment in the absence of my passport? or is it possible to clear the shipment if I send my passport to shipping company in Mumbai via courier?
You have to just follow the rules and you may consult the concerned authorities in person and get some sympathy and relaxation to get through the situation.
Your passport is an essential document for the clearance of shipment according to the operational instructions that are being followed in India. It is the shipping company that needs to answer now.
We will not know what their policies and procedures tell. It is important for you to know that. So, write them a mail and get a confirmation in writing saying what can be done and what can be not.
Tell them your condition and ask them if your agent or any representative can be there instead of you.
