Care for senior citizens Care for senior citizens

I am 46 years old voluntarily retired individual, wanting to take care of both my mother (68) and mother in law (77)who are widows.. Along with my husband, I contributed towards building of a house, in my in-laws property. However the house and on the area which the house is built is on my husband's name. My husband and I decided that we would jointly take care of our respective mothers, me being the eldest of my 2 other siblings and he the youngest of his 1 sibling. I have come to live in the house for the past one year. However my mother In law is not happy that I am taking care of my mother..so has created a lot of problems for me including physical and mental abuse in 3 such occasions. My husband is in the gulf and only I came to take care of them out of pure intentions after working about 24 years with him. I have spoken to the local cops all 3 occassions but did not lodge a complain only because of my mother in laws age, but things seem to get really bad to worse. My mother in law refuses to leave her ancestral home which is given to her by her mother but lives in the same compound . She wants to control both houses and if things dont go her way she creates havoc which is followed up with the abuse. Example she makes up stories that are untrue in which I am the main accused and she abuses based on these untrue events..

Both are currently in good health just on medication for ailments like pressure sugar cholesterol.. nothing major.
My mother does not have son's and my mother in law does not have daughters ..

I want to know what are the legal precautions I needs to maintain in the above case.
Can I temporarity exempt from her from certain priviledges as disciplinary measure, Because it's difficult for me to even talk to her after the physical abuse as it looks like she is ok With the hitting and makes it her only resort to release herself. I cannot stoop to her level of thought and action. Please advice
