Reservation policy in PSU recruitment
I applied to a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) in India that recruits through the GATE scorecard. I fall under the EWS category. In the first phase, the cutoff for UR candidates was set at 800 (with 13 seats), while the cutoff for EWS candidates was 720 (with 3 seats). The scores of the EWS candidates who were selected were 781, 753, and 720. In the second phase, the cutoff for UR candidates dropped to 780, but no new EWS candidates were selected, meaning there was no upgradation among the EWS candidates selected in the first phase. By the fourth phase, the UR cutoff had further decreased to 690, while the EWS cutoff remained at 720. My question is: Why were the EWS candidates not upgraded when UR candidates did not join in the earlier phases? Shouldn’t the EWS candidates have been promoted to UR status, allowing the next candidates in line to be selected for the EWS category?
