Claim for damages for mental agony and depression

My father filed a civil suit claming his removal is illegal and consequential damages for mental depression and agony in 2003 and he died in 2004 and we were included as legal hiers please do let me know whether civil court is empowered to award the said damages my father was asked to stop attending his duties with assigning any reason for the same is there any judicial precedent in this regard thanks in advance
