Register marriage

The Catholic Church permits marriages between Catholics and validly baptized non-Catholics, but requires permission from the Catholic party's local bishop. This permission ensures that the marriage is not considered a "mixed marriage" and that all necessary conditions for a valid Catholic marriage are met. While the Catholic Church permits such marriages, there can be challenges in terms of maintaining the Catholic faith and traditions within the marriage. However, while there may be some requirements and potential challenges, marriage between a Pentecostal and a Catholic is recognized and possible in both denominations. In India, the marriage between different faiths and religions is known as an inter-religious marriage and comes under the purview of the Special Marriage Act, 1954. This Act provides a secular framework for registering marriages, regardless of religion or caste, ensuring that individuals can register their marriages without needing to abandon their faith or religious identity. The Act does not discriminate against any religion, allowing couples of different faiths, including Pentecostal and Catholic, to register their marriage. Section 4 of the said Act outlines the conditions of a valid marriage. As per Sub-Section (c) of Section 4 of the said Act, apart from other conditions, the male has completed the age of twenty-one years and the female the age of eighteen years; As per Sub-Section (d), the parties are not within the degrees of prohibited relationship, provided that where a custom governing at least one of the parties permits of a marriage between them, such marriage may be solemnized, notwithstanding that they are within the degrees of prohibited relationship. To register a special marriage, you need to visit the office of the concerned Marriage Officer appointed under Section 3 of the Special Marriage Act. found in every district to comply with the statutory formalities as required under the Act. After the marriage has been conducted, the Marriage Officer will enter a certificate in the Marriage Certificate Book. Once the Marriage Officer enters the certificate in the Book, this certificate becomes conclusive evidence of the marriage and is legal proof of a marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
