Dear Client,
State Excise departments offer liquor licenses that grant individuals permission to manufacture, import, sell, and consume alcohol and intoxicants legally. Application processes vary between states. Typically, applicants should present evidence of identity and residency, along with business plans, premises layout plans, and insurance against fire or natural disasters, as well as proof that no criminal history affidavits exist and fees that vary based on location. To obtain a liquor consumption permit from the State Excise Department, all it takes is visiting its website or mobile app and linking your Aadhaar Card number with its portal/app. Digital permits can then be bought within minutes; L-6 licenses allow retailers to sell Indian and imported alcoholic beverages and beers; L-19 permits clubs to serve foreign alcoholic drinks; P-13 allows hotels to serve special event liquor, while L-49 grants permission for weddings/parties/other functions to serve alcohol. The State Excise Department’s official website is to be accessed in order to download the application form. All the relevant details must be filled in as necessary and then submitted along with the requisite fee to the authority concerned. Based on the license being applied for, the supporting documents may vary, but a few of them remain common to all types of licenses, such as Identity proof, Address proof, NOC from the Municipal Corporation, NOC from the Fire Department, Photograph of the applicant, etc. On the submission of the application form and the supporting documents, the same will be verified by the licensing authority. The licensing authority also possesses the power to call for any additional information or documentation necessary, as the case may be. Once the application is found to be in order, a notice will be posted by the authority on the personal or business address of the applicant with the name and license details on display. Where there are no objections raised, the application shall be passed, and the license shall be granted. The license is required to be renewed annually by using the renewal application form, and the renewal fee has to be paid to the concerned authority. If required, seek advice from legal professional to navigate the issue in the right way.
