I recently received my OBC caste certificate and OBC Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate. My father passed away in 2007, but in both certificates, the prefix “Late” is not written before his name. I consulted an advocate to understand whether adding the “Late” prefix is necessary, especially since I am applying for government job exams, including Oil India Limited. I’m confused and worried whether my application might get rejected because the “Late” prefix is missing in these certificates. What should I should apply for altering or I should Apply fresh but if Apply fresh it will took time so guide what should I do or should I keep the certificate as it is.

Dear Client,
There's no rule or regulation that mandates the use of "Late" before a deceased father's name on an OBC certificate. it's not a standard requirement for official forms, including OBC certificates.You just write your father's name in the exam form in the "Father's Name" section. Whether he is living or deceased he remains your father, none can replace him. He has only deceased and that does not mean he cease to be your father. There is no such need to add any prefix "Late" word or word resembling it before the name of the deceased father.

No, it is not mandatory under law or any government recruitment rules (including those of UPSC, SSC, PSUs like Oil India Limited, etc.) to

mention “Late” before the name of a deceased father in a caste certificate.

The main purpose of mentioning your father’s name is identification and lineage, not his current status (alive or deceased). So as long as:

The name is correct and matches with other documents (like Aadhaar, PAN, 10th certificate),

There is no discrepancy in the spelling or identity,

then non-use of “Late” will not lead to rejection of your application.
