The right to keep a pet is outlined in Article 51A(g) of the Constitution of India, which grants every citizen of India the right to choose to live with or without a companion animal. Article 51A(g) of the Constitution of India makes it a fundamental duty of every Indian citizen to respect and have compassion for all forms of life. So, any objection to said right will be tantamount to infringement of the constitutional right and a pet owner or lover can complain to the police station or file a civil suit before the Court for violation of the Wildlife Protection Act (1972) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (1960). The laws protecting pets and pet lovers are all central legislation applicable to all states across the country. In the given scenario, put the fence to resolve the issue between the co-residents while both are pet lovers to resolve the issue amicably for the sake of peaceful co-existence. Otherwise, litigation may drag the matter for years, damaging the cordial relationship between the residents.
