Co-Borrowers Credit Card Default and Impact on Home Loan
Six years ago, I took a home loan with my elder brother listed as a co-borrower. While his name appears on the loan documents, I am the sole owner of the property and have consistently made all home loan payments on time without a single default. Currently, my brother is facing severe financial distress and has defaulted on his credit card dues—issued by the same bank that sanctioned our home loan. I’m deeply concerned about the potential consequences this may have on my home loan, despite my perfect repayment record. Could someone please help me understand: - What impact, if any, could my brother’s credit card default have on our jointly held home loan? - What steps can I take to protect myself and ensure my home and repayment history remain unaffected? I would greatly appreciate any guidance on legal, financial, or procedural safeguards I should consider.
