Dear Client,
The registration process can be done online via the official GST portal. To register under the GST Act, 2017 for selling products internationally, you must first obtain a mandatory GST registration as an exporter. Exports are classified as zero-rated supplies, meaning they are exempt from GST, but GST registration is required to claim a refund of any accumulated input tax credit (ITC). The following documents are required for registration under GST Act, e.g., Certificate of Incorporation, Partnership Deed of the Business, Proof of business address, Permanent Account Number (PAN) of the business, Aadhaar card of the proprietor or authorized signatory. Import Export Code (IEC) obtained from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Bank account details, including a cancelled cheque, Details of authorized signatories etc. An advance deposit of tax equal to your estimated tax liability must be made at the time of registration. Upon payment, a provisional GSTIN will be generated which remains valid up to 90 days. Visit the official GST website at www.gst.gov.in and navigate to Services > Registration > New Registration and following the steps and uploading the required documents. Once your application is approved by the tax authority, your Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN) will be generated. On receipt of GSTIN, you have to choose one of two zero-rated supply options for your exports. This allows you to either export without paying IGST under a Letter of Undertaking (LUT) or claim a refund of Integrated GST (IGST) paid for procuring the goods or services. You have to maintain proper documentation, including tax invoices and shipping bills, and ensure that export proceeds are received in convertible foreign currency, as specified by FEMA/RBI. Exporters under a Letter of Undertaking(LUT) must complete the export of goods within three months of the tax invoice date. Failure to do so will require payment of IGST and interest. GST is a branch of law or legislation that eventually comes under the arena of Chartered Accountants and Tax Consultants, who have expertise and in-depth knowledge on the subject and may guide you properly to navigate the issue effectively. Hence, it is suggested to consult with the said professionals for tailored advice and to process the application for registration under GST Act smoothly and effectively.
