Supporting need for tenant
Hi, My name is Venkateswar, has been living in a rented house for the past 11 years. At the time of moving in, the rent was ₹5,000, which was considered very high. Now, the house owner is demanding extra charges under the pretext of house repairs and other expenses. Our parents remained silent at that time because it was difficult to find a new house. My father passed away 4-5 years ago. Since then, the house owner has deliberately been collecting additional charges apart from the rent. Several times we expressed that these expenses should be the owner's responsibility, but their family became angry with us, which led to the water supply being cut off and many months of intentionally delayed electricity bill payments. When an officer visited, we explained that we had only paid the rent, at which point they took note of our complaint. This month, the rent and maintenance fees together amounted to ₹8,300, yet we are now being asked to pay another ₹6,000 for internal painting. My mother is old and prefers not to complain. The problem is that I have a very basic salary and cannot afford such high expenses. Please advise on what I should do. Thank you.
