Afghani Loan Sharks
My name is Shakshi Roy and I live in kolkata. I am sending you this message to ask for advice. I live alone with my mother and my brother lives out of town. During pandemic my mother took a personal loan of (35,000) from an afghani loan shark back in 2019, he charged 10% interest per month but due to the emergency situation we could not help. And for few months we paid but due to the pandemic it was impossible to pay even an amount of 3,500 per month. They harassed us every now and then which took a mental toll on us also my father passed away. However, in 2021 September with help from a relative we paid 42,000 including the principal amount. And the remaining 14,000 interest they said we could pay partly and also MENTIONED CLEARLY that they do not charge compound interest. But after my mother paid 2k per month i hope of clearing the loan in few months, they later said they'll charge us 1.4k per month until we pay the entire 14,000 of interest. Since then we have been paying him regularly every month also last year my mother took a 6k loan to which they are taking 2k interest per month (14,000 was the previous interest) but its now difficult to pay, we have 3 months in dues and they are harassing us again, and my mother is sick she is mentally disturbed due to all this. We do not have our own home, our relative let us stay here. I even have a recording of them when we paid it back in 2021 and them saying "they do not take compound interest" I really need your guidance on what i should do. Please help me, I live alone with my mother, i am scared to stay here.
