Send a written demand (formal demand notice) to employer (recorded delivery / email + WhatsApp where applicable) — preserves evidence.

Lodge a complaint / grievance with the local Labour Commissioner / Inspector (conciliation is normally attempted first). In Karnataka you can use State labour portals / Shops & Establishment machinery for certain claims. (State-level shops & commercial establishments rules also apply to working conditions and leave encashment claims in many cases).

File a claim under the Code on Wages (authority appointed under the Code has powers of a civil court to summon witnesses, enforce payment and award compensation/penalties). If conciliation fails, the authority can pass an order for payment and award penalties.

Separate proceedings for gratuity / PF / ESI where relevant — those statutory schemes have their own claim routes (e.g., gratuity claims, EPFO claims).

Civil suit for recovery (money suit) — alternative if employer is avoiding labour forum routes or if you want a parallel remedy.

Criminal/penal action: Code on Wages provides for offences/penalties for non-compliance; labour authorities can initiate prosecution in appropriate cases.
