Dear client,
In 2021, if you made a threatening comment on Instagram toward an American actress and there was no police complaint, criminal case, or formal investigation against you, it is unlikely to automatically affect your U.S. student visa application. When applying for a U.S. student visa such as the F-1 visa, you must complete Form DS-160, and U.S. authorities may conduct background and social media checks. However, visa refusals generally arise from criminal records, security concerns, misrepresentation, or failure to meet eligibility requirements—not from an isolated immature online comment that did not result in legal action. There is no lawful way to “bypass” background checks, and attempting to hide or falsify information could lead to serious consequences, including visa denial or a long-term ban. If no formal complaint or legal proceedings ever occurred and the comment was not a credible threat, the practical risk is usually low, but if you are concerned, consulting a U.S. immigration attorney before applying would be the safest step.
