You are not required to appear for Solemn Affirmation, as that stage applies only to the complainant and their witnesses under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. As a respondent/accused, your obligation to appear arises only if the court issues summons against you after taking cognizance. If no summons has been served, you are not required to attend court and there are no consequences for non-appearance. However, if summons is issued in your name and you fail to appear, the court may proceed to issue a bailable warrant and subsequently a non-bailable warrant. Considering that you had no prior knowledge of the engagement and discontinued contact upon learning the facts, no prima facie offence is made out against you, and you may seek appropriate legal remedies, including discharge or quashing of proceedings before the High Court.
