Dear Client,
No—your neighbours cannot legally force you to sell your land to them or stop you from selling it to someone else, provided your title is clear and the land is legally transferable. In India, a property owner has the full right to choose the buyer, and there is no general law that gives neighbours a “first right to purchase” unless there is a specific legal restriction like a co-ownership right, an easement dispute, or a contractual agreement already in place. Under the Transfer of Property Act, 1882, you are free to transfer your property to any person of your choice.
Mere objection from neighbours, especially out of personal interest or pressure, has no legal value. However, if they are creating threats or obstruction, you can file a complaint with the local police and, if necessary, seek an injunction from a civil court to restrain them from interfering with your lawful sale. Just ensure your land documents, title, and boundaries are clear to avoid any genuine dispute.
