1. We are a startup and we have built a product based on past experience. One past employer is threatening of legal case on the product claiming some similarity, and states they own the right(Nothing legally defined). How to protect ourself?

A.dear client in your matter If you have signed an agreement during the employment on this then you may not be able to do this. If your ex employer has a copyright or patent to this then also you cannot. You see you must consult an expert lawyer get your product vetted out otherwise you may fall in legal trouble later on.
