Annoyance by neighbor hindering construction of compound wall in my land

Sir the land belongs to me on which I'm planning to construct compound wall on my own expense but my neighbor is asking me to give a foot of my land for their convenience and threatening that if I'm not going with what they are asking for, they will initiate legal proceedings.
Here my question is how could they stop me from constructing a wall in my land on my own expense??
I don't know how to tackle this situation.
