Cheques given for obtaining loan

Hi,
I was in urgent need of money so i approached a private finance institution. Their representative got signed the loan application from me and collected all documents along with cheques as security but later on they rejected the loan. Since they rejected the loan. I asked the representative to return my application and cheques. But he is been avoiding me. I am worried that my cheques may be misused against me. What options are available to me.?

You may approach the police, you may approach the registrating office of such financial institution or get issue a legal notice and file a private complaint to return the cheques.
