Change of community for child
Hi sir/madam, just need an clarification that am living in Tamilnadu and myself belongs to Hindu SC community and my fiance belongs to Hindu Bc community and my question is can we able to choose the community between these two (bc and sc) after the marriage for our child for future purpose ? I have read some recent articles stating intercaste married parents can choose between two community for their child please clarify whether can we able to change for the child.
A.Hello Sir,
Caste is determined by birth- a child is "born into" the caste of his parents. Caste is never a matter of choice. One can never change one's caste, leave it, or choose not to join it, although there are instances where a paerson maybe expelled from their caste. There is no direct prescribed law but some cases have been there on this topic related to deciding the caste of the child. Ideally, in India the child takes the caste of the father.
