Online Data Entry Legal Notice

A few days ago I started an online data entry work but due to some reason I had to leave it, now the company is asking me to pay a penalty of 7000/- and if I do not pay the penalty, it will send me a legal notice, please give me your suggestions, What should i do.

A.signed any contract ?
terms and conditions of contract ?
let them send a legal notice first.
then check they sent real legal notice of a lawyer who also really exists because they can send a fake letter.

More information will be needed to guide you as to whether you had signed any contract with the company while joining it. If yes then what were the terms for leaving the job.

Did you have any contract with the company where any notice period before leaving the job is mentioned. If no then they cannot ask you to pay the money.
