Company Contract Company Contract

I accepted X company offer letter on email. One day before joining date, i replied to email for not joining company giving personal reason. Also, called HR for same. The contract mentioned if do not join on said Date, I will pay 2 months salary to company.

1 month later, company has sent me legal demand notice to pay 2 month salary. What to do?
If I reply to this notice, I feel I am inviting legal battle.
If I do not reply, company can file case against me and I will be required to be present in Mumbai court.
Company is based in Mumbai and was providing work from home. I live in New delhi.
What to do? Pls advice.

A.Dear Client,
They cannot ask you to pay any money for not joining the company and you need to reply to the notice and fight the case because if they file the case, you will be the other party.
