Freedom of speech is equivalent to "freedom to say good/moral things only"?
I was having a conversation with a lawyer friend of mine after the "Delhi boys locker room Instagram chat" incident. I went on like this:
[05/05, 11:53 am] Me: Apart from the boys who made threats
[05/05, 11:54 am] Me: Those who just objectified women or made inappropriate remarks or body shamed
In a closed chat group
It isn't illegal, am I right?
[05/05, 11:54 am] FemaleLawyer: Nope
[05/05, 11:55 am] FemaleLawyer: It is an offence
[05/05, 11:55 am] Me: How come?
[05/05, 11:55 am] Me: They are not doing anything publicly
[05/05, 11:55 am] Me: Private spaces me to har kisi ko freedom of speech hai
[05/05, 11:56 am] FemaleLawyer: To?
[05/05, 11:56 am] FemaleLawyer: Aise to tum child porn dekh lo ghar baith ke
[05/05, 11:56 am] FemaleLawyer: Offence is an offence
[05/05, 11:58 am] Me: Even people can discuss how much they like child porn
In a closed private room
And it is perfectly legal
I think
Am I wrong?
[05/05, 11:58 am] FemaleLawyer: Absolutely wrong
[05/05, 11:59 am] Me: What law prevents people to share their (immoral) thoughts in private spaces?
[05/05, 11:59 am] FemaleLawyer: IPC
[05/05, 11:59 am] Me: Which section?
[05/05, 12:00 pm] FemaleLawyer: Read 292 again
[05/05, 12:19 pm] Me: If people discusses their preferred sexual positions they like to imagine celebrities in (for example "I want to have sex with Deepika Padukone in xyz position)
In a closed private space
Then it is also illegal
[05/05, 12:21 pm] FemaleLawyer: It is!!!!!
[05/05, 12:21 pm] Me: Even people watching a movie
And discusses how sexy the female lead is (objectifying her)
Then it is also illegal
[05/05, 12:21 pm] FemaleLawyer: It is!!!
[05/05, 12:21 pm] FemaleLawyer: And I am shocked
[05/05, 12:21 pm] FemaleLawyer: That a person like you is so least informed
[05/05, 12:22 pm] Me: Yaar I am also very much shocked+scared that a law student is telling me this
Is she right?
