Regarding earnest money

I recently gave 10000 rupees to a second hand car dealer as a security deposit to buy a used car. But before taking the car , now I am getting a better deal . The dealer refuse to return the deposit amount. He is saying that we forfeit the earnest money. What should I do?
A.Entire amount cannot be forfeited.
