I had enrolled in a Post Grad certification course from BITS Pilani. But for some reason I was not able to continue the course and pulled out before the course had started. The university will be refunding the course fee after deducting 18% GST. Is there any tax on education and are they entitled to deduct the GST even if there is an applicable tax? Usually if you buy a consumer good/service (say from Amazon) and return it back, you are entitled to full refund including the taxes. Is this not the case here?

A.Hello,
Yes GST is applicable for education services also, though you must first check the college rules and guidelines for the return policy
