Bride cancelling marriage after 2 month's of engagement
2 years ago
Hi. I got engaged on 24.3.2021 without any issues. My marriage date was fixed on 24.5.2021. Due to corona pandemic the booked hall got cancelled and the temp wch we were abt to get married was sealed down due to covid. So We wanted to postpone the marriage since we din wanted to get married in either of our houses. When we conveyed the same to groom they started to abuse my family for postponing the event and brought third person to my home without any notice. So I feel to cancel the marriage for their behaviour and now I don like character of the guy. What will be the issues if they take legal action against us.
Thanks in advance

It is best if you cancel the marriage with such a boy who gets aggravated just because you postponed the marriage. Return all of the jewelry and money you got during the engagement, and then get rid of them. Because marriage is not a contract that must be fulfilled, they will be unable to pursue legal action against you until you have returned all of their presents since most likely in such matter parties try to get back all their money and jewelry. You have the option of not marrying even if you are engaged, and no legislation prevents you from doing so.

There would be no legal concerns because there is no legislation that declares postponing or canceling marriage, to be an illegal or unlawful act. You have the right to refuse to marry at any point prior to the wedding without providing a solid explanation. There will be no legal action taken against you unless you return any jewelry or money that was provided to you during the engagement.

On the contrary, you can, if you wish, initiate criminal proceedings against them.
The criminal cases will be for mental harassment, criminal breach of trust, torture, abuse, threat, criminal intimidation to name a few.
Thanks
You may settle by paying some amount or just ignore them.
