Sir/Madam,

I belong to state(Chhattisgarh) where sale of Lottery is banned.Is it legal to play International Online Lottery....?
If it is legal What are the RBI rules for international money transaction specific to Lottery.

A.Dear Sir,
It is not legal. You will be involved in serious consequences if you violate your state laws as such you must be very careful as your future may be spoiled if you involve in such illegal lottery.

A.As per RBI remittance in any form towards participation in lottery schemes are prohibited under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999. Further, these restrictions are also applicable to remittances for participation in lottery like schemes existing under different names like money circulation scheme or remittances for the purpose of securing prize money/awards, etc.hence you are advised not to participate in such activities as banks in India will not support those transactions.

A.Hi,
Online Lottery is not illegal you can play it but you have to pay the income tax on the money you receive in your account from the winnings. You would have to declare your winnings from lottery and pay tax at 30 per cent. Online lotteries are a legal gray area in India.

A.Hi,
Section 7 of lottery regulation act If any person acts as an agent or promoter or trader in any lottery organized, conducted or promoted in contravention of the provisions of this Act or sells, distributes or purchases the ticket of such lottery, he shall be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine or with both.


Section 7 in The Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998

7. Penalty.—

(1) Where a lottery is organised, conducted or promoted after the date on which this Act receives the assent of the President, in contravention of the provisions of this Act, by any Department of the State Government, the Head of the Department shall be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine or with both: Provided that nothing contained in this section shall render such Head of the Department liable to any punishment if he proves that the contravention was committed without his knowledge or that he exercised all due diligence to prevent the commission of such contravention.

(2) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (1), where a contravention under this Act has been committed by a Department of Government and it is proved that the contravention has been committed with the consent or connivance of, or is attributable to any neglect on the part of, any officer, other than the Head of the Department, such officer shall also be deemed to be guilty of that contravention and shall be liable to be proceeded against and punished accordingly.

(3) If any person acts as an agent or promoter or trader in any lottery organised, conducted or promoted in contravention of the provisions of this Act or sells, distributes or purchases the ticket of such lottery, he shall be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine or with both.
