Impact of LAMA discharge on Life insurance claim Impact of LAMA discharge on Life insurance claim

Hi, My wife passed away last month. She was critically ill and was on death bed. I got her discharged under LAMA so that she could spent her last days with family. She got passed away after 2 days. She had life insurance that I have to claim but would like to know if insurance company can reject it on basis of LAMA discharge from hospital or not?

A.Dear client,

In most cases, life insurance policies cover death due to natural causes, illness, or accidents, unless stated otherwise in the policy terms and conditions. If your wife's policy does not have any specific exclusions related to LAMA discharges, it is unlikely that the insurance company would reject the claim solely based on that reason. Insurance companies typically investigate claims thoroughly to ensure all necessary information is provided, and they may require documentation such as a death certificate and medical records.

To obtain accurate information regarding your specific situation, I recommend contacting the insurance company directly. They will be able to guide you through the claims process and provide you with precise details regarding any potential exclusions or requirements.

Thanks for the prompt reply. This is helpful.
I will check the policy document thoroughly for exclusions.

Also, I was going through past judgements and found a case (link provided at the end) where Punjab and Haryana high court gave verdict in favor of customer that even if patient was discharge based on LAMA, insurance companies cannnot deny the claim. This seems to be a case with medical insurance but my query is does that also apply to all related insurances like life insurance in my case or not. Kindly advise.
