Hello, I am an Afghan Student residing in Rohini, Delhi. I am a student of Delhi Technological University. I was trying to do some freelance online jobs on a platform called Upwork then, I was asked to provide my Tax Identification Number/ PAN which I obviously do not have as a foreigner. Now, my withdrawals are in-active due to this problem. Additionally, I do not have a TIN from my country either. What should I do? How can I bypass this TIN issue on the Upwork platform?

A.Dear Client,
Consult Upwork Support: Reach out to Upwork's customer support and explain your situation as a foreign freelancer from Afghanistan residing in India. They might be able to provide guidance on alternative options or exceptions for your case.

Obtain a PAN Card: As a foreigner conducting freelance work in India, you may be required to obtain a Permanent Account Number (PAN) card. The PAN card is a ten-digit alphanumeric number issued by the Indian Income Tax Department. It is essential for financial transactions, including freelancing income.

To apply for a PAN card, visit the official website of the Income Tax Department of India or the nearest Tax Information Network (TIN) Facilitation Center. The process may involve submitting necessary documents and completing the application form.

Remember, tax compliance is essential, and it's best to resolve the TIN issue appropriately to avoid any potential legal complications in the future.
Thank You.
