Dear Client,
The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, makes the insurance of motor vehicles compulsory. The owner of every motor vehicle is bound to insure his vehicle against third-party risk. It covers the vehicle for damages against accidents, fire, natural disasters, and theft among others, and also covers any injury to the owner. It also covers any damages and injuries caused to the third party. A personal accident insurance policy provides protection against death, permanent total or partial disability, and temporary disability in case of an accident. Personal accident insurance does not cover any injuries that are self-inflicted, intentional, or caused by a policyholder's negligence. This includes injuries resulting from the policyholder's participation in illegal activities, such as drug abuse or alcoholism. It also does not cover any claim for unemployment arising out of the accident. When a claim is repudiated or rejected by the Insurance Company, you may either file a complaint before the Consumer Court claiming compensation or before the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal against the Insurance Company. Please consult with an Advocate for guidance and steps.
