Check the adoption laws in your jurisdiction. The legal status and rights of adopted children, including inheritance rights, are often defined by these laws. In case your adopted father passes away without a will (intestate), the laws of intestate succession in your jurisdiction would typically determine how his property is distributed among legal heirs. The definition of legal heirs can vary, so it's crucial to understand the specific laws that apply to your situation. While you mention that you don't have any formal adoption documents, the fact that your adopted father's name is on your identification papers may be considered evidence of the adoption. Consult with a legal professional to determine how such evidence may be viewed in your jurisdiction.
