I am 21 years old and my mom has had many affairs even before I was a child and recently a new one is going on. I am fed up of fighting, she tells every lie, now I don't believe her words at all, so please tell me.What is the provision in the law for this?

A.Dear Client,

There is no law against extra-marital affairs in India. Adultery, which was previously a criminal offense, was decriminalized by the Supreme Court of India, declaring it unconstitutional. Despite the absence of criminal consequences, adultery can still be considered grounds for divorce, and it may have legal and social consequences, particularly for women.

In the given scenario, seeking guidance from a professional counselor with expertise in dealing with extramarital affairs can be beneficial. Such a professional can provide valuable insights and an objective viewpoint that may help navigate the complexities of the situation. Counseling can offer support and strategies for coping with the emotional challenges that may arise.

If efforts to address the situation through counseling do not lead to significant progress or positive changes, and if the domestic environment becomes toxic, as a mature and educated woman, you have the autonomy to make decisions that protect your best interests. Deciding on your future may involve considering various factors, including your emotional well-being and overall happiness.

It's important to approach such situations with careful consideration and, if needed, seek legal advice to understand your rights and options. Consulting with professionals, both counselors and legal advisors, can assist you in making informed decisions based on your unique circumstances.

A.Dear Client,
There is no law against extra-marital affairs in India, but adultery was a criminal offense until September 2018 when the Supreme Court of India declared it unconstitutional. However, adultery can still be considered grounds for divorce and can have legal and social consequences, particularly for women. In the given scenario, it may be helpful to talk with a professional who has expertise in counseling about extramarital affairs, as they can offer insight that may not have occurred to you. They will also not judge your parents' behavior and instead can offer an objective viewpoint that may discover the right path forward to navigate the issue. However, if all the efforts yield no remarkable development or change and the homely affairs become toxic, you being a mature and educated woman can decide your future that protects your best interest.
