A.Dear Client,

If discrepancies are found in one's Annual Information Statement (AIS), which is pre-filled with financial details mandated by law, the taxpayer can provide online feedback for correction. The income tax department will automatically rectify the information based on the feedback, and additional details may be required depending on the chosen option. If errors originate from the ex-employer, the taxpayer should inform them with a screenshot of the online feedback submitted on the Income Tax Deptt portal. If no action is taken, filing a grievance through the e-filing portal or a written complaint is advised.

A.Dear Client,
The information in one's AIS is pre-filled with details (as mandated by law) shared by financial entities like banks, mutual fund houses, your employer regarding the TDS that has been cut from your salary and various sources of income such as dividends, interest (even if tax is not deducted) during a financial year. If a taxpayer/assessee finds an error in his/her AIS, as mentioned above, the taxpayer should provide online feedback. Once the feedback is submitted, the income tax department will automatically correct the information in your AIS. You might need to provide additional information depending on the option selected by you from the drop-down menu. Further, in case your ex-employer uploaded the incorrect information that is reflected in the AIS, you need to inform them regarding the correction of that anomaly with a screenshot of your feedback uploaded and submitted online on the official portal of the Income Tax Deptt. If the deductor or the tax department does not respond or take appropriate action to rectify the discrepancies, consider filing a grievance with the income tax department. This can be done through the e-filing portal or by submitting a written complaint. You may consult with a CA or Income Tax practitioner for further guidance and steps.
