Mentally and Emotionally Abused by Parents Mentally and Emotionally Abused by Parents

I'm 17 and an only child. I have my board exams going on, but my parents wouldn't let me study and constantly yell at me. At times, they also tell me to leave their house or kill myself because I am only wasting the money they spend on my education. I want advice on how I can legally make them stop saying things like that to me.

A.Dear Client,

I understand the difficulties you're facing, and it's important to address such challenging situations. In the unfortunate circumstances you described, where you are experiencing domestic violence from your parents, you have the option to take legal action.

You can file a case against your parents under Section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence (PWDV) Act, 2005, before the concerned Magistrate, especially if the harasser is a blood relative.

Additionally, seeking help from social service organizations or NGOs is crucial. Contacting helplines like CHILD HELPLINE NUMBER 1800 102 7222 or the GOVT. HELPLINE NUMBER 1098, and reaching out to organizations such as Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) through their Complaint Cell helpline or email ([email protected]) can provide support.

Informing your situation to the Chairperson of the National Women's Commission (Email: ncw[at]nic[dot]in), Complaint & Investigation Cell (complaintcell-ncw[at]nic[dot]in), or the State Women's Commission, as well as the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission through their online complaint portal (https://nhrc.nic.in/complaints/complaints/how-to-file-a-complaints), can also prompt necessary actions.

These channels are designed to address distressing situations and offer assistance to individuals facing domestic violence or any form of abuse.
