A.Dear Client,
It may be noted that currently, hit-and-run cases are tried under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code, which provides for the accused a penalty of up to two years in jail. All cases of hit-and-run, along with other forms of activities that came under the ambit of causing death by a "rash and negligent act" were lodged under Section 304A of the IPC. Once you lodge an FIR of the accident, let the police do their investigation and try to catch the offender. You need to extend your cooperation in the investigation, whenever required. Section 161 of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, provides Rs 2 lakh compensation for victims of hit-and-run accidents and for grievous hurt/injury. it is Rs 50,000.
