Electricity bill dispute
We were three families living in the same house for years having one electricity bill on the name of grandfather. No one was paying the bill and the amount accumulated to more than 1 lakh rupees. Due to floods when the house got destroyed and we start living in separate houses the elder brother conspired with authorities and changed the name of bill to his younger brothers name and made himself a separate bill. I complained the authorities about the same but there are listening. They have changed the name of the bill from my grandfather's name to my father's (middle son) and other 2 brothers have given separate bills. The whole amount which is more than 2 lakh now, has been burdened on my shoulders.
I have reached out to higher authorities but no one is providing any relief. What should i do now?
In the given scenario, serving a legal notice to the Electricity supplying agency, file a complaint against them for deficiency in service and unfair trade practices before the Dist. Consumer Commission under Sec.35 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 claiming regularisation of entire pending bills and change of connections in violation of the Electricity Act and rules along with compensation for harassment and cost of litigation. The complaint should be filed within two years from the date of the cause of action i.e, the date of generation last Bill. Even if it is beyond two years, you can file a complaint along with a prayer for condonation of delay in filing a complaint explaining the valid reason behind the delay. Reach out to an Advocate for guidance and steps. Apart from this, you can also approach the Electricity Ombudsman seeking appropriate relief in the matter.
If electricity office not ready to disconnect the electricity facility inspite of nonpayment of consumption charges. It is better to proceed like that only.
