Rent in lockdown Rent in lockdown

I am a college student who live in a rented flat in Kolkata. I am currently in my hometown due to the lockdown because of Covid19 and not staying in my flat in kolkata. But the landlord is still asking for rent even if I am not staying there because of the lockdown. I have read that the central government has asked all landlords not to collect rent for one month from students and labourers, but my landlord has collected rent from me for the month of April and May. Do I need to keep giving rent for the upcoming months as my college will open in august and only then I will go to Kokata? What are my legal options?

A.Hi,

There is no direction on the remaining month of rent from the CG, hence, as on date, you are liable to pay rent if the possession of the property is under your custody.

A.Dear Sir,
It goes on principle of morality. Just stand in his shoes and take decision. No body should enrich at the cost of another. Better pay one month rent and vacate it. Morally you are liable if not legally. Govt is not giving any concessions to the land lords in payments income tax and other house taxes etc. You are a student. You must learn honest. Honesty goes a long way. Please give me Rank 5 if you feel my answer helped you.
