Hi. I am 23 year old and live with my father and brother. My aunt also lives with us. This is my father's house and she is an unmarried 54 year old woman. She has tortured the whole family and I feel she is not sane. She abuses my father and feels that she isn't accountable to anyone, not even her own brother. She has even stolen gold from our house and sold that without anyone's permission for her own needs. She is a complete thief and don't even leave petty things that belongs to other family members. All the relatives failed to advice her. She doesn't listen to anybody and everyday she fights with either my father or me. Few months ago my mother passed away and my aunt's behaviour didn't got a change even after such a mishappening. The situation has got worsened as we are already dealing with the trauma of losing my mother and inspite of that she is torturing us mentally. We can't even kick her from the house as she would create a scene and it would eventually become disrespectful for us. Neither we could handover her to some NGO as she isn't gonna stick with anyone.. We can't send her to other relatives house as no one could tolerate her. She doesn't wanna leave this house as she feels her freedom only here and which has become a pain for us. It has been 30 years since my father is tolerating her and now he is on the verge of breaking. What other solution do we have to get rid off her?
You may approach police and they will teach her a lesson by booking her in a theft case.

If you have been intensely aggravated by the act of your aunt then you can file a complaint u/S 378 IPC for theft. However, your household need not escalate much since it can still be solved within the four walls of your house. You can talk to her peacefully and request her to move to an oldage home if the situation calls for it.

There is only one way to solve this issue: through amicable confrontation. There is nothing much you can do about it since she is still a part of our family. However, you can still call the police on which might have some effect on her like making her more accountable or so.
