Dear Sir, I got a rural area unmetered electricity connection 8 years back. I never got a bill and whenever i approached to office they said they will send bill but never did. Now when i was not at home SDO came and lodged an FIR for no connection. When I approached they said that you will have to pay full balance bill which is some rs. 61000 and also fine for theft some Rs. 80000. why should i pay fine for theft since I have a connection? What should I do now?

A.If you have documents regarding release and installation of unmetered connection, then department cannot do anything against you except asking monthly fixed charge for unmetered connection which are generally few hundred rupees depending upon state and policy of the department for unmetered connection. So far as theft case is connection, if you have a proper connection even if unmetered , it does not amount to theft.Better consult a local lawyer from vidhikarya with all your documents for further assistance.
