Is it legal to fix a CCTV camera with voice recorder
5 years ago
My neighbour has set a CCTV camera facing the stairs an d my kitchen window and main door. He did not inform us regarding this. It makes me feel that somebody is watching us everytime. Also we are not sure whether it has a voice recorder. Is it legal to install a voice recorder.

A.Raise your grievance with the secretary of the building for complete removal of the CCTV camera. If that doesn't works lodge a complaint with the local police for violation of privacy.

A.I really appreciated you to ask this question. Because Your query shows two sides of survelience benefits.one is violation of Article 21 that is right to life and personal liberty and second side is valid, strong and proper digital evidence if any incident happens.Yes the CCTV Footage and Voice recording through proper voice recorder or mobile but it should be clear is acceptable in the court and it comes under the Digital evidence in Indian Evidence Act. But if you don't want to record your voice except video recording then you can request to your neighbors for mute voice recording from system.or switch off cctv camera by your side. May be that cctv will helpful for security of your house as well.
