Dog bite the postman

A postman came to our house,my dog wasn't tied that day and was inside the house(usually he is tied everyday but that day it wasn't),when my father opened the door, my dog suddenly barked at the postman and escaped through the door and the postman was slightly bitten.. wasn't major bite..then he left after that incident we called him several times on phone for health enquiry but he didn't answer..then went to the post office for compromise but they didn't..we came to know that he had went to nearby hospital (govt) for vaccination..and they told that he is taking 1 month leave for this
It was filed a case by the police

As per the given information the postman has right to take action against you as the dog was yours and it was in your territorial jurisdiction. so the steps which can be taken by you is only that you can have settlement with the postmen including his medical expenses.
