A.Dear client,

In your case, you, as the husband, are paying the health insurance premium for your wife's medical insurance. The deduction under Section 80D can indeed be claimed when the premium is paid for the health insurance of your spouse.

As per Section 80D, an individual can claim a deduction for the premium paid for health insurance policies covering the taxpayer, the taxpayer's spouse, children, and parents. The maximum deduction allowed varies based on the age of the insured and the premium paid.
the maximum deduction allowed under Section 80D for health insurance premium payments is as follows:

For individuals below 60 years of age: Up to Rs. 25,000 for the taxpayer, spouse, and dependent children. An additional deduction of up to Rs. 25,000 can be claimed for the premium paid for the parents' health insurance (total deduction of up to Rs. 50,000).
For individuals above 60 years of age (senior citizens): Up to Rs. 50,000 for the taxpayer, spouse, and dependent children. An additional deduction of up to Rs. 50,000 can be claimed for the premium paid for the parents' health insurance (total deduction of up to Rs. 1,00,000).
Since you are paying the premium for your wife's health insurance, you can claim a deduction under Section 80D for the premium paid for her policy. The maximum deduction you can claim will depend on her age and the premium amount
