Mentally abusive parents Mentally abusive parents

I want to know the solution to mentally abusive parents. I am a 26 year old adult working and independent also the individual bread owner in the family. My mother likes to micromanage me and know about my hourly whereabouts even while I am at work. This has increased since I went out on a trip with some of my friends and it has taken a toll on my mental health. I want to know what will be the effective solution to this problem.

A.Dear Client,
In India, there is no specific law addressing mental abuse by parents towards adult children. However, if the behavior of the parents amounts to harassment or emotional abuse, it may be possible to seek legal recourse under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. This act provides protection against physical, sexual, verbal, emotional, and economic abuse within the family and can be applied to both married and unmarried women. It also extends to female relatives who live together under the same household.

Under this act, you may approach a Magistrate's Court and file a complaint against your mother for the mental abuse you are experiencing. The court has the power to issue a protection order, restraining order, or any other appropriate order to ensure your safety, well-being, and peace of mind. The court may also direct the abuser to stop such behaviors and seek counseling or therapy.

Additionally, you may consider seeking counseling or therapy for yourself to cope with the effects of the mental abuse and develop strategies to deal with the situation effectively.
Thank you.
