A.Dear Client,
In your case, the relevant consumer protection law that may apply is the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. This act aims to protect the rights and interests of consumers and provides remedies in case of unfair trade practices.

To claim a refund and compensation, you can follow these steps:

1. Send a written complaint: Draft a detailed complaint letter addressing the issue to the beauty pageant show owner. Explain the specific promises that were made regarding accommodation and food expenses, and state that you were misled by their actions. Request a refund of the amount paid and compensation for the additional expenses incurred.

2. Seek mediation: If the complaint letter does not resolve the matter, you can approach the nearest Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum (District, State, National) depending on the amount involved. File a complaint with the necessary documents, including the payment receipts, emails, or any communication with the beauty pageant show. Generally, disputes involving amounts up to Rs. 1 crore are dealt with at the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum.

3. Attend the hearings: Once the complaint is filed, the Forum will schedule hearings where both parties will present their arguments and evidence. It is crucial to attend these hearings and provide any additional documents or evidence that support your claim.

4. Seek compensation: During the proceedings, you can specifically request compensation for the additional expenses you incurred, such as media coverage costs and courier charges. Present evidence that demonstrates the actual cost of these expenses.

5. Await the Forum's decision: The Forum will examine the evidence and make a decision. If the Forum finds in your favor, it can order a refund of the amount paid for participation in the beauty pageant show and compensation for the additional expenses incurred.

Note that the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 provides for a time limit within which complaints must be filed. Therefore, it is advisable to take prompt action and seek legal advice from a lawyer who specializes in consumer protection laws to understand your specific rights and options in more detail.

Thank you.
